There's no doubt why Arsenal are now countless pundits' favorites to secure the Premier League during this term.

Examine their performances against Newcastle and Crystal Palace in contrast with those same matches during the prior term.

The Gunners have defeated all of them in the current season, but lost 10 points across those games as they fell away in the title race previously.

Defensive Strength

Arsenal's defensive strength is a crucial element why they are appearing strong to finally fulfil their title goal.

They rank top for clean sheets (6), goals conceded (3), attempts against (72), shots on target faced (19) and expected goals against (5.3).

The central defensive pairing of Gabriel and William Saliba is arguably the finest in the league, with Arsenal recording a clean sheet in six of their first nine games.

Set-Piece Expertise

Their threat from set-pieces is well known, but competing clubs still find it difficult to contain the Gunners from these situations.

They have notched 11 times from set-pieces in the league, a couple extra than any other side, with 69% of their goals coming from these situations.

"Arsenal can excel in various aspects now. The whole team has a intimidation presence. People are just wary of them and it is excellent to see."

Title Claims

What is especially notable about Arsenal's commencement to the campaign is they have also encountered Manchester United, Liverpool and Newcastle United at opposition grounds and Manchester City at home - and are still ahead by four points at the top.

While they maintain victories, their historic competitors are struggling. This marks the initial occasion at this juncture of the season since 1992 that none of Manchester City and United, Liverpool or Chelsea are in the Premier League top four.

The expectations was on head coach Mikel Arteta at the beginning, having spent around £250m on eight summer acquisitions in search of that coveted first title since 2004.

But the business has so far proven successful in style, with his side one of the most prolific attacks in the league and having the tightest defense, despite numerous injuries.

  • Shutouts in three straight Premier League games
  • 385 minutes without allowing a goal
  • Only a trio of goals in 12 games across every tournament

Former players and analysts have characterized Arteta's men as a "juggernaut, looking difficult to stop" with the whole club now operating with confidence and purpose.
