Since the launch of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a wide array of personalities, and a exciting storyline showcasing celestial beings, demons, and sinister influences increasing in power within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed
Episode 3 finished on a major cliffhanger and revealed the first table of adventurers who will separate from the main group to undertake their separate journey, distinct from the remaining groups.
The Soldiers table features the determined fighter (brought to life by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Given 13 cast members, it was evident from the outset that keeping everyone at a single group would be impossible.
This explains, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, intertwining the personal journeys before dividing into three smaller tables: Warriors, Strategists, and Explorers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for participants who enjoy a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where non-violent answers are scarce.
Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might seem unsuited, but the developments of the third episode make it clear why these five characters are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.
Why They Must Go
For one thing, the group understands precisely where to proceed after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose demise started the narrative’s action—exploited the enemy for his selfish purposes, breaking into the hidden lair, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the enchanted items to dispose of.
The antagonist then settled his debts and escaped to a secure base in the northern region, beyond the urban center, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each adventurer has a individual motive to leave the city the urban setting:
- Thimble, as the companion and trusted friend, seeks vengeance.
- The knowledgeable figure knows the northern area and warns that it is a hostile environment.
- The warrior and The healer, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to execute the fighter and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their reputation as important members in House Halovar could enable the party access places they usually can’t.
- Additionally, The grateful character pledged a unbreakable promise to The savior for his salvation and will now accompany him anywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the rulers that control Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city too risky:
- The agile adventurer and The character are known criminals.
- The warrior and The healer betrayed the powerful family and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
- The target is targeted for elimination by the family.
This means them few options but to journey toward the northern region in quest for the antagonist.
What’s Next?
According to episode three’s follow-up content, we find out that the warrior group will not appear next week, leaving the remaining eight cast members to assemble the Seekers and Planners parties.
